Single Parent Empowerment Basecamp
Our next gathering brings single parents into one room with the tools that change everyday life: financial empowerment, community resources, and supportive connections. The goal is simple — stronger parents and brighter futures, built together, so no family has to figure it all out alone.

Extreme Heat Training
Our community training helps single-parent families stay safe during extreme heat: recognizing warning signs, keeping children cool, planning for power outages, and knowing where to go for help. Families left with preparedness kits, and children joined a supervised activity corner while parents learned.

Digital Literacy Program
Our Digital Literacy classes give parents hands-on practice with computers and the internet, step by step and at a comfortable pace. With laptops in front of them and a facilitator close by, parents learn everyday skills: connecting to Wi-Fi, creating and using an email account, searching the web, and filling out online forms. These are the skills that open doors to jobs, school communication, and services for their families — and parents leave each class more confident using technology on their own.

Christmas Toy Drive
Every holiday season, our Christmas Toy Drive turns the playground into a gift giveaway. Volunteers in Santa hats fill the tables with boxed toys, stuffed animals, and red gift bags, then inflate balloons and greet families so every child leaves holding something wrapped just for them. More than 200 toys have been given through this drive.

Back to School Drive
Every summer, our Back to School Drive makes sure local children start the school year ready and confident. Families pick up brand-new backpacks filled with school supplies — crayons, notebooks, pencils, and more — while volunteers help with a smile and a photo in our welcome frame. More than 400 children have received backpacks through this drive.

Our founder, Melissa Laratte, was selected as a 2026 Western Union Global Fellow — a program that brings community leaders from around the world together to learn, share, and strengthen the organizations they serve.
She is bringing that knowledge back to SPCC: fresh ideas for our programs, new skills for our team, and lasting connections with changemakers doing this work in their own communities.

The center brings families, neighbors, volunteers, and partners together around the daily needs single parents carry.
The center is here week after week — not just for one visit or one event. Parents know they can walk in, be heard without judgment, and leave with real support: a listening circle, help finding resources, and people who remember their name and their children's names.
No parent should face things alone. When single parents meet others walking the same road, everyday life gets lighter — a friend to swap advice with, a neighbor who can watch the kids in a pinch, a circle that celebrates milestones and shows up during hard weeks. Through support circles, family events, and our education cohort, parents and children build relationships that keep growing, so every family leaves with people they can truly count on.
